According to the latest ranking by Taste Atlas, the Serbian capital has earned its place among the top global destinations for food lovers

Taste Atlas, a renowned global guide to traditional cuisine and flavors, has published its list of the 100 best cities in the world for food. Belgrade made the list, securing the 68th position, further highlighting the growing international recognition of Serbian cuisine.

Italian Cities Take the Lead

Italy dominates this year’s ranking, with 20 cities featured among the world’s gastronomic elite. Naples topped the list with a perfect score of five, followed closely by Milan, Bologna, and Florence, reaffirming Italy’s status as a culinary powerhouse. The fifth spot went to Mumbai, reflecting the rising influence of Asian cities in the global food scene.

Belgrade Among Global Culinary Giants

Belgrade finds itself in the company of world-renowned cities such as Paris, Tokyo, Istanbul, New York, and Madrid. This ranking confirms Serbia’s capital is becoming increasingly visible on the global culinary map. Taste Atlas describes Belgrade’s food scene as rich and diverse, deeply rooted in tradition and marked by a strong sense of authenticity.

Regional Cities Also Well Ranked

Notably, several cities from the region have also secured spots among the top 100. Sarajevo ranks 46th, Zagreb 59th, while Split holds the 72nd position. These rankings further confirm the growing interest in Balkan cuisine among international culinary experts.

Traditional Serbian Specialties That Stood Out

According to Taste Atlas, several traditional Serbian dishes left a strong impression on the global audience. These include čvarci (pork cracklings), ajvar (pepper-based relish), Pirot kačkavalj (cheese), pinđur, Sjenica cheese, and the famous Pirot peglana kobasica (air-dried sausage). Deeply rooted in local culture and customs, these specialties have become key elements of Serbian culinary identity and are now gaining recognition among food enthusiasts worldwide.
