The Most Desirable Solo Travel Destinations in 2025
Solo Journeys on the Rise – Personal Fulfillment Over Group Tours

In the world of travel, solo adventures are becoming increasingly popular, and the latest report by Kensington Travel reveals which countries and cities are most appealing to those who decide to pack their bags and go alone. A trend that weakened during the pandemic is once again gaining momentum, with more travelers seeking independent experiences driven by inner motivation.
New Travel Priorities: More Personal, Less Conventional
Based on comprehensive data analysis from 2024 and additional research studies, Kensington found that solo travel is making a strong comeback. While it accounted for just 4.2% of their overall sales in 2024, interest is steadily rising, with nearly 76% of respondents expressing openness to this kind of adventure in the next three years.
Interestingly, travel motivations are increasingly stemming from personal desires rather than external events like family gatherings or holidays. People want to explore the world for themselves—whether it’s fulfilling a dream, immersing in new cultures, or escaping everyday life. Almost half of those surveyed named wish fulfillment as their main reason for traveling, while three-quarters emphasized enjoyment as a top priority.

Europe Ranks High, but India Leads the Way
According to the 2025 rankings, India emerged as the top destination for solo travelers. Its rich history, cultural diversity, and iconic sites like the Taj Mahal make it particularly attractive to those seeking profound and authentic experiences. The Taj Mahal, located in Agra and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most frequently cited reasons travelers choose this destination.
European countries dominate the rest of the list. Italy, ranked second, is famous for its cultural treasures and historical landmarks that have inspired dreamers and explorers for centuries. Cities such as Rome, Florence, and Venice offer a perfect blend of art, cuisine, and romantic atmosphere. France, Spain, and Iceland also score high due to their charm, diversity, and the unique experiences they offer to individual travelers.
Asia, Australia, and New Zealand – Distant Yet Unforgettable Adventures
Beyond Europe, several Asian countries such as Japan, Egypt, and Thailand also hold top spots.
Japan is praised for its fascinating blend of tradition and innovation. Egypt appeals to those eager to step into the world of ancient civilizations and monumental wonders. Thailand, with its tropical beaches and spiritual centers in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, offers a rare balance between relaxation and personal reflection.
Australia and New Zealand, although geographically remote, make the list thanks to their stunning natural landscapes, safety, and abundant opportunities for adventure—qualities that greatly appeal to solo travelers in search of active getaways and self-discovery.
