WEEKEND ON TARA: PARADISE FOR ALL THE SENSES

You want to get away from the city crowds and gloomy everyday life, and you like to actively relax, then Tara is the perfect destination for you, especially on snowy days. How can you spend your winter weekend most productively and enrich your life with new experiences in just two days?

If you are traveling from Belgrade, we suggest that you do not use the highway, because by staying on the highway you will pass through much more beautiful landscapes, and you will not lose much time.

After 140 km and two and a half hours of driving, you arrive at the first destination, the Sava Savanović Watermill, popularly known as the Sava Vampire. Be careful, after disconnecting from the highway, four kilometers of unpaved road awaits you, but the clear stream and the mysterious abandoned house, as well as the magical beauty of nature will make you forget about the bumps you drove on. Make sure you see a yellow butterfly somewhere.

After this, a half-hour drive to the next station, a house on the rock, awaits you. The story, along with this symbolic attraction, says that back in 1968, several boys from Bajina Basta built a resort on a rock where they could hide from the sun. For construction, they used planks from an old scattered shed nearby. In the same year, the Drina took clumsily assembled planks from the rock. That was the beginning of the story of a house that has been demolished and repaired many times in the last half century.

You may already be hungry, but don’t worry, Bajina Basta is only five minutes away from you. After lunch and a short walk around the city, it’s time to head to Lake Perućac, which can be reached in 15 minutes. Do not take a break, but go uphill along Tara and start counting the curves.

When you count the seven curves, you will know that you are very close to Mitrovica, a small place ideal for finding accommodation. There, check in for one night in your chosen hotel or apartment, and if you left early in the morning, you should have arrived at the right time for a swim.

In the immediate vicinity of this place is the beautiful lake Zaovine with clear water. You can go to it on foot, but only if you are a big fan of long walks. The best place for swimming is near the Lazić dam. The beach is wild and the water is cold, but you will enjoy the refreshment. In the evening you can take a walk in nature and have dinner in Mitrovica.

After that, you can go down to Perućac for another short bath, coffee and a set of buns. Nearby you can see the river Vrelo, which is exactly 365m long, which is why it is called Godina.

When you pass by Bajina Basta on your way back, you will visit the beautiful monastery of Rača, and the Church of the Ascension of Christ, better known as the log cabin church in Dub. You can also take a break in Valjevo, Desanka Maksimović’s hometown. Near the town there is the monastery of St. John, where you are greeted at the entrance by the chirping of parrots, nymphs and other exotic birds.

This ends the weekend, and you can start a new work week full of energy.
