Tourism in Serbia in the First Half of 2025

Although the total number of tourists recorded a slight decline, the number of foreign visitors remained at last year’s level, while domestic tourism experienced a more noticeable drop in arrivals and overnight stays

According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, a total of 1,590,278 tourists visited Serbia during the January–May 2025 period.

Domestic Travelers Decline, Foreign Visitors Steady

Domestic tourists accounted for half of the total number of visitors, with 787,429 recorded arrivals. In contrast, the number of foreign guests remained virtually unchanged. A total of 802,849 foreign tourists visited Serbia, confirming steady international interest.

Overnight Stays – Domestic Tourists Still Lead

During this five-month period, there were 4,581,583 overnight stays in total. Domestic tourists accounted for 2,329,258 overnight stays, a 10% decrease compared to 2024. On the other hand, foreign guests recorded a 2% increase, with a total of 2,252,325 overnight stays, bringing the shares of domestic and foreign stays to nearly equal.

The Golden Mountain Remains a Favorite Among Locals

When it comes to destinations most visited by domestic tourists, Zlatibor remains at the top of the list. Following are Kopaonik, Belgrade, Vrnjačka Banja, and Sokobanja, indicating that mountain resorts and spa towns continue to dominate among Serbian travelers.

Belgrade Still Leads Among Foreign Visitors in 2025

The Serbian capital continues to be the most attractive destination for foreign tourists, with 1,138,480 overnight stays, despite a slight 3% drop compared to the same period last year. Other popular destinations include Zlatibor, Novi Sad, Kopaonik, and Niš, highlighting the diversity of Serbia’s tourist offer—from urban centers to natural attractions.

Russians Still in the Lead, but Numbers Drop

Among foreign visitors, tourists from Russia recorded the highest number of overnight stays—220,028. However, this represents a 13% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. They are followed by tourists from Turkey, China, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, reflecting a stable influx from the region and Asian markets.
