Increase in tourist traffic during the first two months of 2025

Serbia attracts more tourists in the winter months

According to the data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, tourist traffic in Serbia continued to grow during January and February 2025. In this period, a total of 542,612 tourists visited the country, representing a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. A significant increase in the number of foreign visitors further contributed to the overall growth of the sector.

Domestic and foreign tourists – relations and trends

Of the total number of visitors, 51% were domestic tourists (277,732), while the remaining 49% were foreign guests (264,880). The number of domestic tourists recorded a modest increase of 3%, whereas the number of foreign visitors jumped by 10%, indicating Serbia’s growing attractiveness as a destination for international travelers.

Regarding overnight stays, a total of 1,734,957 nights were recorded, which is also a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Domestic tourists accounted for 898,949 overnight stays, showing a slight decrease of 1%. Foreign guests recorded a 14% increase with a total of 836,008 overnight stays.

Popular destinations in the country

Tourist centers across Serbia continue to register a significant number of visitors. Among domestic tourists, the most visited destination was Zlatibor, with 185,683 overnight stays, marking a 4% increase. In addition, a considerable number of visits were recorded in Kopaonik, Belgrade, Vrnjačka Banja, and Divčibare.

On the other hand, foreign tourists mostly stayed in Belgrade, which achieved 382,748 overnight stays – an 11% increase compared to the previous year. Apart from the capital, popular locations among international visitors included Kopaonik, Zlatibor, Novi Sad, and Niš.

Where do tourists come from?

Among foreign visitors, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded by tourists from Russia82,568. Although Russians remain the most numerous, their number decreased by 7% compared to last year. In addition to them, a large number of overnight stays were recorded by tourists from North Macedonia, Turkey, China, and Romania, highlighting the diversity of visitors coming to Serbia.
