The First Puppet Museum in Serbia Opens in Niš
On International Children's Day, Niš becomes a center of childhood joy, art, and tradition with the opening of a unique museum in the region

Starting June 1, Niš will be enriched with a new cultural landmark – the “Mediana” Puppet Museum, the first of its kind in Serbia. The opening is symbolically scheduled for International Children’s Day, highlighting the museum’s mission: to nurture imagination, creativity, and emotional connection with childhood. Located in the heart of Niš, this museum is dedicated to children, art, and tradition – as well as to all who wish to revive memories and revisit the magic of the puppet world.
Guided Tours and Puppets from Around the World
Visitors stepping into the museum for the first time will have the opportunity to take part in guided tours scheduled from 1 to 2 PM. Pre-registration is required for these tours. The exhibition will showcase puppets from various collections – both private and those used in performances at the Niš Puppet Theatre. A special charm of the display lies in puppets from Russia, which bring with them the rich legacy of the country’s puppet tradition.

More Than a Museum – A Space of Creative Energy
“Mediana” will be more than just a place for quiet observation. It is envisioned as a vibrant hub of cultural events. The museum will host both permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as creative workshops designed for children and adults alike.
Through encounters with writers, actors, psychologists, and other experts engaged in childhood development and the arts, visitors will have the chance to share ideas and build a community centered around the values of childhood, play, and creativity.
Opening Hours and Practical Information
The museum will welcome visitors every day except Monday, from 11 AM to 7 PM. It is expected to become an important gathering place for families, educators, artists. But also everyone who wishes to discover stories through puppets – stories that connect generations.
With the opening of this museum, Niš gains more than just another cultural institution. It gains a space where puppets are not merely objects, but carriers of memories, emotions, and artistic inspiration.
