THE PREMIERE OF THE “MACBETH” WAS HELD AT THE NATIONAL THEATER IN BELGRADE

The famous tragedy “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare, directed by Jagoš Marković, premiered last night on the Great Stage of the National Theater in Belgrade on the Day of this theater, which celebrated its 154th birthday earlier in the day.

The main roles are played by the champions of the Drama sector of the National Theater – Nebojša Dugalić as the bloodthirsty ruler Macbeth and Nataša Ninković as the sinister Lady Macbeth.

The performance is performed on the Great Stage, but the audience is also arranged to sit on the same stage on three sides as a form of a box, as it was performed in the Globe Theater during the time of the great Shakespeare, the greatest playwright of all time in the history of the theater.

The very attractiveness of the play lies in such a solution of the director and scenographic setting, where the Big Stage auditorium is empty, because the audience is placed around the actors on the seats.

Again, all the actors of that cruel bloody drama play on the high platform of the stage, which they come to sometimes from the direction of the audience and also leave close to the visitors.

The drama depicts the huge ambition of the Macbeth couple to rule the kingdom, and at first the woman’s desire is more pronounced and blinded by the great power that awaits them.

The husband, in order to prove himself as a man to his wife, goes from crime to crime, literally stepping over corpses and not giving up, because he sees no other way to stay in power.

The two of them, in the extraordinary interpretation of Nebojša Dugalić and Nataša Ninković, do not want to allow anyone to threaten them even a little, and that bloody feast took off in a big way, until the ultimate extermination, which to some extent has parallels with another of Shakespeare’s monstrous anti-heroes – Richard III in the play of the same name .

Here is a very interesting story, because Macbeth wants to know his fate through three prophetess witches and thus learns, at the moment when his eyes are already bloodshot from so many crimes more than his wife, that “no one can do anything to him who is born of a woman” . Thus Macbeth is sure that he is absolutely indestructible.

But what if there might be at least one man who somewhat fits that prophetic thought?

However, the director Marković opted for more subtle solutions, so that he does not show the audience these various cruel liquidations on stage, but they take place off the stage and are only told about, apart from the denouement itself.

When the characters go to the other world, the actors represent it by entering the space under the platform and making sure to close the lid behind them with a loud bang, as a sealed fatal fate.

The director believes that this is a piece that speaks of our love of power, of the desolate will for power, of evil and good within us, not outside of us, as he recently said and added that “that’s why this piece has survived for so many centuries, because it brings catharsis and purification , and it cleanses us itself through fear and pity from all that”.

During 100 minutes, the performance shows a pure, unadulterated, primal evil, just like in that painful Shakespeare play “Richard III”, which has been in the repertoire of the National Theater for several years.

In addition to Nebojsa Dugalić and Nataša Ninković, the ensemble also includes Aleksandar Srećković, Radmila Živković, Aleksandra Nikolić, Ivana Šćepanović, Branislav Lečić, Vučić Perović, Petar Strugar, Danilo Lončarević, Jovan Jovanović, Ognjen Malušić, Nemanja Stamatović, Bogdan Bogdanović, Dragan Sekulić, Miloš Živanović and Tomislav Radosavljević..

The first rerun is scheduled for December 11, followed by performances on December 12 and 30.
