Potpecka cave opens to visitors on April 1st

Explore this natural phenomenon and discover one of the most beautiful caves in the Balkans

Potpecka cave, located 14 km from Uzice, will once again open its doors to visitors starting April 1st. This natural attraction is famous for its spectacular horseshoe-shaped entrance, which rises 50 meters high and spans 12 meters at the base. With these dimensions, Potpecka cave boasts one of the tallest cave entrances in Serbia, making it an unmissable destination for nature lovers and adventurers.

Speleological features and cave formations

Inside the cave lies an abundance of stunning cave formations, and the visitor path extends 555 meters. The tour begins with an ascent, as the entrance-exit trail consists of more than 700 steps.

During the visit, guests will have the opportunity to admire unique stalactite and stalagmite formations. They will also witness fascinating cave structures formed over thousands of years. The cave consists of two main levels: the Upper and Lower cave, both offering a breathtaking view of this underground wonder.

Prepare for your visit

Although Potpecka cave provides an unforgettable experience, visitors should be prepared for temperature differences. The cave maintains a constant temperature of 9.5 degrees Celsius, so it is advisable to bring warmer clothing, even during the summer months.

Opening hours and visits

From April 1st to April 30th, the cave is open on weekdays from 12 PM to 4 PM and on weekends from 10 AM to 6 PM. From May 1st onwards, visits are available daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, with guided tours starting every hour. The last entry is at 5 PM. The visiting season lasts until October 31st, giving you plenty of time to enjoy this natural wonder.

Tickets and prices

Ticket prices are adjusted for visitors of all ages and groups:

  • Individual tickets: Adults – 400 RSD, Children – 300 RSD

  • Group tickets: Adults – 350 RSD, Children – 250 RSD

Cultural and historical significance

Potpecka cave is not only a natural phenomenon but also an archaeological site. During excavations, remains of pottery, stone tools, and worked deer antlers were discovered, indicating that the cave was inhabited as early as the Neolithic period. These findings add even more value to this speleological gem, offering insight into the historical and cultural significance of this location.
