The favorite country for Serbian tourists in the summer is Greece. And while we wait for the borders to open, we are thinking of new destinations for summer vacations this year, somehow these are all already known places like Halkidiki, the Olympic region and the most popular Greek islands. However, rarely any of us visited this beautiful country at any other time of the year, so we did not have the opportunity to get to know other beauties of Greece besides wide, sandy beaches.

One of such, unexplored beauties of this country is certainly Lake Plastira in central Greece, which is justifiably said to be “Little Switzerland”. This artificial lake was created in 1960, but the idea for its creation was first mentioned 40 years earlier. At that time, the river Tavropos flooded, which caused great damage in the entire environment.

General Nikolaos Plastiras, after whom the lake was named, was the first to have the idea of ​​building a lake here, as he personally witnessed the damage caused by the flooding of the river. When General Plastiras became prime minister, he did not forget what he said. a lake was built, which in his honor is called Plaster.

Meanwhile, this lake is becoming one of the favorite destinations not only for Greeks from all over the country, but also for tourists from other countries. And it especially attracts nature lovers.

The unreal blue color of the lake, surrounded by mountains whose peaks are covered with snow and green pine forests, delights tourists all year round. Hundreds of kilometers away from the urban centers of Athens and Thessaloniki, Lake Plastira, near the town of Karditsa is considered an ideal location to escape . Fresh mountain air and idyllic landscapes, similar to the Swiss Alps, are a great choice for nature lovers and all those who want peace and relaxation.

In addition to phenomenal landscapes, visitors are also offered numerous activities. Hiking, horseback riding and kayaking are just some of them. During the warmer period of the year, of course, you can refresh yourself in the lake and enjoy one of the many beaches. Almost every village nearby can boast of a phenomenal view, which extends to the lake and the mountain peaks in the area.

Among them are the most developed villages Neohori and Kalivja Pezulas. And in the immediate vicinity of Neohorija there is a botanical garden.

Many hotels in the region are reminiscent of mountain cottages and are an ideal choice for enjoying the peace. In the village of Neraida, which is also close to the lake, there is a winter sports center, which will be enjoyed by ski lovers.

This country in the south of the Balkan Peninsula has a rich history, the land of olives, oregano, olive oil, gyros, sirtakija is rich in beautiful landscapes that, apart from the local population, few people know, so you should consider a different type of tourist travel than vacationing in Greece.
