MOUNTAIN RESCUE SERVICE: TIPS FOR TRAVELING TO THE MOUNTAINS DURING SNOW DAYS
Are you planning to spend the winter these days? The snow that is falling all over our country from today can bring many unplanned situations on the roads to the mountains, so the first advice of the GSSS is to get well informed about the passability of the roads.
The sun that made us all happy on January 1 and lasted until Christmas is a bit unexpected for this time of year, but it was certainly nice. Today, a rainy morning awaited us, which will turn into snow in all parts of Serbia by the end of the weekend.
On Sunday, it is possible to form a smaller snow cover in the lower areas as well. Due to the announced increase of the winter cover in the mountainous areas, the Mountain Rescue Service of Serbia issued a statement with advice that mountaineers should follow.
The first and foremost is that everyone who starts the mountain path is informed about the condition and passability of the roads to the desired mountain landscape.
Make sure you have enough fuel in the tank (it is desirable that the tank is fully filled) which can be vital if you go to a mountainous area, but also a charged battery of your mobile phone. If there is a problem, do not panic. If you have reach, call for help, don’t try to go to the dump for help yourself.
Bring enough food and water, blankets and extra clothes.
In case of a jam, stay in the car and wait for help to arrive.
It is not out of place if you have the opportunity to bring a few small things without which sometimes you can not do anything, such as a shovel, battery cables, tow rope, spray for lubrication and defrosting, candles, lighter, lamp, etc.
