Turkey has been the most popular tourist destination for years, for all those who have visited it, but also for those who plan to do it in the future, below are some interesting facts about this country.

  1. Although tulips are the first association when the Netherlands is mentioned, they were actually introduced to the world by Turkey. Tulips are a symbol of this country.
  2. As many as 13 places in Turkey have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and two of the seven wonders of the ancient world originate from this area – the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus and the Mausoleum in Halicarnassus.
  3. Plans for the construction of the famous bridge on the Bosphorus were made in 1503 by the famous Leonardo da Vinci, but they were not realized then.
  4. Istanbul is the only city in the world that is located on two continents – Europe and Asia, and because of that it can often be heard that it would be the capital of the world, if there was only one country in the world.
  5. The famous sentence “Come, see, won” was uttered in Turkey, after the victory of Gaius Julius Caesar.
  6. There are over 80,000 mosques in Turkey.
  7. One of the popular myths is that Turks drink coffee the most. They actually, mostly drink  traditional, Turkish tea, served in distinctive cups, and is most similar to black tea.
  8. Many Orthodox saints were born in this country. Saint Nicholas in the city of Potar, and Saint George in Cappadocia.
  9. Istanbul’s Karakoy and Beyoglu districts are connected by the oldest metro in Europe, and the second in the world, after the London metro.
  10. The British writer Agatha Christie was one of the passengers in the famous Orient Express train, which operated on the line Paris – Istanbul, where the last station Sirkeci is located.
